My counselling experience
I have over 20 years experience in counselling individuals and couples in a broad range of matters. I consider myself a life-long learner – curios to know and understand more, and always looking to add to my knowledge. I am interested in research and incorporate research-based findings into my work. I have worked mainly as a counsellor in private practice, with some experience in organisational setting (as a counsellor and university tutor).
I have covered many and varied matters over the years:
- Relationship counselling (heterosexuals and same-sex couples) – communication, conflict, intimacy
- Separation and divorce – the emotional process and practical issues
- Parenting – children and adolescence, post-divorce parenting, conflict related to parenting styles
- Caring and communicating with elderly parents
- Specific relationship difficulties – verbal, physical and emotional abuse, affairs, controlling and jealousy behaviours
- Workplace relational conflicts with peers and superiors
- Professional development and career change
- Cultural issues in various contexts – relationship, workplace
- Friendships conflicts
- Spiritual and religious development, including spiritual abuse and recovering from an experience in cults for the individual and family
- Childhood abuse – physical, emotional, sexual, religious
- Confidence & assertiveness
- Death and grief, ambiguous loss
- Health challenges
- Managing the medical and emotional process of coping with acute, chronic, and terminal illness of oneself and family or friends
- Infertility, miscarriage, and menopause
And many other unique experiences!
