Relationship Counselling
Dahlia’s main counselling focus is relationships and communication. Her couple counselling approach is informed by research-based knowledge about the nature of relationships, which includes how to turn conflict into an opportunity for improving connection, closeness and emotional intimacy.
Some of the challenges relationships can face are:
- Conflicts
- Trust and broken trust (such as affairs)
- Intimacy and connection
- Parenting approaches and relationships with adult children
- The emotional process of fertility treatment
- Relating to siblings and elderly family members
Dahlia combines a problem solving approach with increasing a relationships existing strength. She has worked with couples in different stages of their relationships, same-sex couples and those in relationships after separation.
Relationship issues can also be at a centre of individual counselling.
Separation & divorce
Counselling at times of separation and divorce provides help through:
- Emotional understanding of the pain and making sense of what happened
- Dealing with emotions brought by the practical aspects of separation, including property settlement and parenting arrangements
- Parenting your children and helping them with their emotions
- Understanding how to approach the legal and mediation process
- How to talk about ‘it’ with family, friends, and in the workplace
- Dealing with conflict and negotiating assertively, being fair, dealing with unfairness
- Support in decision making
- Planning for the future
Dahlia first trained in conflict management, with an emphasis on divorce mediation, twenty years ago. She has acquired knowledge and understanding of the nature of the separation and divorce experience in terms of the emotional and practical process.
